Pomegranate Halves Sculpture

A true partnership, the Pomegranate consists of two equal, mirrored halves sitting side by side on a Corian base that measures 1” x 10” x 3”. Cast in bonded marble and hand painted with acrylics the piece has a complexity that belies its ruddy, naturalistic exterior. The seeds were each crafted in clay one by one and hand set in the interior spaces.

This winter fruit, with Biblical connections, the Pomegranate tested my patience when under construction in the studio. The fine detail demanded time. Hurrying was out of the question. Though, the effort was worth it, yielding a mysterious texture that celebrates the tangy and richly jewel colored seeded fruit.
