Pear Derrieres

Truly, less is more. With their tops removed, these pears take on an entirely different persona, one sure to enliven the conversation. Now, they become bathing beauties, or mischievous toddlers, or simply Pear Derrieres. In a particularly whimsical mood, I took to my studio with the idea of giving new life to existing forms, much in the same way that an established garden bolstered with young plants is imbued with fresh energy.

I particularly enjoy the abstract nature of these pieces which, viewed from a fresh angle, lose their fruit identity and are simply about form.

Pear Derrieres will settle comfortably into the less programed part of your life. I see them watching discreetly from the sidelines of the man-cave during a Sunday ballgame, or keeping company with a wall-sized collection of family photos, so many of the children when they were small.
