Before working on this elemental citrus piece, I pictured it in my mind’s eye. It was going to be all about simplicity – a clean elliptical form, refined just enough to portray its lemon-ness. When the clay took shape and the lemon developed, many more details emerged, giving it a clearly defined personality. There is a lot more going on here than I originally conceived.
Fresh and lively, this lemon looks as if it just fell from the tree. You can almost pick up the perky citrus scent as you run your hands along the stem and down the leaf edge. Let your imagination wander. Picture a group of lemons parading down the center of your dining table. Who needs flowers, when you have lemons?
