Like sisters intertwined on the sofa, parents cuddling with a little one, puppies asleep atop one another, these peppers are reflective of warm interactions and of the contented tumble of this one next to that one so typical in close relationships.
As a trio, the forms seem almost to emerge from one another, shaping themselves effortlessly to nestle in, or to provide support. Separated, the pieces become distinctive individuals – titled Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque – with adventurous personalities.
All the peppers can be displayed alone or, in the case of Santa Fe and Taos, as a couple. Inspired by the resplendent Southwest and the legendary Santa Fe farmers’ market, Companionable Chiles are perfect as a cheerful tabletop piece in the family room or perhaps in a much larger version as a lively focal point poolside.
For me, they evoke memories of carefree days spent in communion with my siblings, bare feet to the earth, bronze arms embracing the vivacity of summer.
